At KLB, we manufacture packaging from cardboard. Cardboard is by definition a sustainable product because cardboard is predominantly made from recycled material and, to a lesser extent, also from virgin raw materials from sustainably managed forests. Despite the fact that sustainability is already in our cardboard DNA, we want to go further.
To create a better world for future generations, we want to implement sustainability, profitability and innovation at every stage of our operations. You can find numerous of our initiatives below.
As part of the VCDO community (Voka Charter Sustainable Business), we proactively integrate sustainable entrepreneurship into our business policies and set our goals in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. We are working towards Unitar SDG Pioneer certification to further implement our commitment to sustainability in our business. We set concrete and material development goals where we will achieve results in the short and longer term.
Transparency and environmental awareness are high priorities for us. To measure our impact, we are setting up a dashboard with KPIs to monitor our water, electricity, waste and CO2 consumption.
Together with Climatecamp, we map our current CO2 emissions and set up the necessary actions to systematically reduce them.
Our solar panels allow us to produce about 1 GigaWatt of clean energy annually. This green energy provides us with a large part of our annual energy needs.
To reduce our CO2 emissions, we are also committed to the electrification of our vehicle fleet and encourage our employees to commute by bicycle.
As part of our commitment to a more sustainable planet, we are actively working on packaging with a reduced environmental impact. Our colleagues responsible for packaging development oversee a ‘smart’ design, producing as little waste as possible. The cutting waste remaining in our production is recycled without exception and processed into new cardboard.
We are proud that all the products we produce in-house bear the FSC® label. In doing so, we ensure that our raw materials come from responsibly managed forests that protect plant and animal habitats.
We invariably believe in cooperation with all our stakeholders. We only work with partners who have the same standards regarding sustainability as ourselves. We are convinced that only together can we make a positive impact and contribute to making our planet more sustainable.
We also attach great importance to the well-being of our employees and therefore continuously invest in new technologies that improve their daily operation.
Two years ago, we were joined by a number of buzzing employees, namely our KLBees, they live in the hives on our industrial estate and take care of biodiversity in our region.
